If you are buying a second-hand home in Gort, Co. Galway, you have probably been asked by your Solicitor to get an Engineer to undertake a Structural Survey report. These are also referred to as a pre-purchase report, house survey or building inspection report.
It can be difficult to decipher through all of a jargon as to what company to use. All offer varying degrees of service, but how do you make sure that you are hiring the right Engineer?
Firstly, it is important to make sure that you are NOT hiring somebody through a referral company. Whilst many of these will make booking easy and offer “fast turnaround times”, you have no guarantee as to who you will get to survey your property, or indeed their qualifications or experience. Also, you have no guarantee if they have Professional Indemnity Insurance to undertake your report.
